Regular Maintenance on Thermal Management is Important!

Regular maintenance on enclosure thermal management will prevent costly breakdowns. It is necessary on even the most reliable computer enclosure system(s).

When deploying computer or printer enclosures in a factory or industrial setting, thermal management (air conditioners, filtered fan systems, heat exchangers, etc.) should be considered to extend the life of the electronics. However, it is not a simple install and forget solution. The thermal management must be checked and maintained often.

Failing to maintain proper maintenance will cause systems to not operate at their intended capacity and will lead to faulty parts that require replacement. In some instances, manufacturers will completely deny warranty claims, if it is discovered that the thermal management systems were neglected.

Depending on environmental conditions, planned maintenance once or twice a year (or more), will do wonders to extend the lifetime of your equipment installed in a computer enclosure. According to the website, Apollo Heating and Air Conditioning, filter maintenance is a must, “your air filter picks up harmful pollutants in the air. Without regularly cleaning and switching your air filter, in the least serious cases, this can lead to less efficient systems and higher bills. In the worst cases, it can lead to total breakdowns… Even if you don’t ever deal with a complete system breakdown, ignoring regular air filter replacement still costs money. Because the filter is clouded up with dust, dirt, and other pollutants, [and therefore] your… air conditioner must work harder.”

Developing a structured maintenance plan will increase operational dependability and longevity. Simply put, it reduces the probability of failure to electronics and increases a machine’s overall reliability.

  • Check, clean and replace filters as needed
  • Recommended cleaning practices per the manufacturer
  • Re-adjust thermostats depending on fluctuating ambient temperatures
  • Check essential functions on all controls
  • Create a maintenance plan that all parties will follow

Consistent maintenance ensures that a fan or air conditioner is running at the optimum efficiency, thus lowering energy costs and benefiting the environment. Maintenance will result in overall longer run times, even under the most extreme temperatures and environmental conditions. Be sure to establish your plan of action, from the beginning, when deploying a pc enclosure in a manufacturing environment.
